GCRF (Global Challenges Research Fund) is a £1.5 billion fund to support cutting-edge, world-class research that addresses the challenges faced by low- and middle-income countries. This five-year evaluation – led by ITAD Ltd – provides an assessment of whether the fund is achieving its aims, it is on course to deliver impact and achieves value for money.
NIRAS-LTS is leading the module on Research Fairness which will assess the extent to which GCRF is treating partners in the global South fairly and contributing to the emergence of equitable, sustainable global research collaborations.
Our work (over the first two years of the evaluation) creates an analytical framework, which we will then use to guide the collection of evidence at the Delivery Partner and project levels throughout Stage 1 of the evaluation. Research methods will include document review with text analysis in MaxQDA, and stakeholder interviews with ‘deep dive’ case studies to explore key questions further.
Working with consortia partners, this assessment of Research Fairness will be embedded within a wider evaluation framework that assesses relevance, gender & inclusion, as well as the overall management of GCRF as a programme – with a view to evaluating results and assessing value for money.
