Danny Smith

Danny brings experience in the development of agricultural value chains, sustainable investment and social enterprise, gained from consulting and private sector experience primarily in West Africa, South America and the UK. He currently provides technical/strategy consultancy, project management and business development within a range of research, evaluation and technical assistance contracts in these fields for LTS/NIRAS, with clients including major UK and global donors both public and private, impact investors/DFIs and commercial organisations.

Prior to joining LTS/NIRAS, Danny spent four years with a global soft commodity trading group, specialising in sustainable cocoa, coffee and cotton, and subsequently with a social enterprise consultancy group in the UK. In roles in Ivory Coast, Ghana and Peru, he led teams to establish and grow sustainable commodity sourcing programmes for major global chocolatier clients, and designed, piloted and launched new business initiatives (including in financial inclusion and micro-entrepreneurship) serving farmers and rural communities. He developed experience in trade logistics, commodity processing, and futures trading of commodities and FX in stints in London, Switzerland, Singapore and Mexico.

Danny holds a Global MBA from IE Business School in Madrid, and speaks English, French and Spanish. He has worked on five continents, with extended spells living in Europe (Switzerland, UK), Africa (Ghana, Ivory Coast, Zambia), Asia (Singapore, Vietnam), S America (Peru) and N America (Canada, Mexico). He has conducted assignments in Kenya, Rwanda, Nicaragua, India and Indonesia.
